"Caryn has a great eye for what's good and not so good in any piece of writing. She points out both. Her attention to detail is exceptional, but she doesn't lose sight of the big picture of the story and the characters. Caryn is my go-to for writing coaching."

- Al Pessin, author of the "Sandblast" series

What Is a Book Coach?

Just like a sports coach helps athletes reach peak performance, a book coach helps writers bring out their best work. A book coach guides you through story development, helps you spot and fix plot holes, strengthen character arcs, and clarify your story’s emotional thread. 🏆

But a book coach isn’t just a cheerleader, they’re a strategic partner who understands story craft and the emotional ups and downs of the writing process. Your coach offers personalized guidance, developmental feedback, accountability, and practical tools to help you move from idea to polished manuscript.

While there are no guarantees in publishing, working with a book coach often helps writers craft stronger stories in less time, and with far less frustration, than going it alone.

What is Developmental Editing?

Developmental editing focuses on the heart and structure of your story, the big-picture elements that make your book engaging and emotionally resonant. Think of it as personal training for your manuscript, 🏋️‍♂️ shaping and strengthening the story from the inside out.

A developmental editor helps refine and strengthen:

  • Genre: Ensuring your story fits (and stands out) within its category.

  • Structure: Building a solid foundation with pacing, plot, and scene flow.

  • Characters: Developing well-rounded, believable characters who grow and change.

  • Theme: Clarifying your story’s deeper meaning and emotional thread.

  • Point of View: Choosing and maintaining the right lens for your story.

  • Reader Expectations: Making sure your book delivers on the emotional and narrative promises of its genre.

About Me

Hi, I’m Caryn Devincenti, a former gemology instructor turned traditionally published author, Author Accelerator certified book coach, and creative writing instructor. With an MFA in Creative Writing and over 16 years of experience helping writers refine their craft, I specialize in upmarket, book club fiction, romance, and suspense genres, guiding authors from rough drafts to radiant stories that shine. 💎

My commitment to the writing world extends far beyond one-on-one coaching. As a former regional director of the Florida Writers Association (Palm Beach County), I continue to serve the literary community through creative writing classes and free monthly critique groups, creating spaces where writers can grow, connect, and thrive.

Raised by a librarian grandmother who believed that “books have the power to change the world,” I’ve built my career around helping writers share their stories with heart and purpose.

My award-nominated essays and articles have appeared in respected publications including: The Royal Palm Literary Awards, Reedsy, The Maryland Writers Association, Working Writers, DivorcedMoms.com, and The Good Men Project.

I’m a proud dachshund mom and a member of WFWA, FWA, MWA, RWA, and Author Accelerator.
